MORGAN JOANEL RETURNS HOME TO RELEASE

EVOCATIVE NEW SINGLE

Multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter and visual artist, Morgan Joanel, returns to the music scene with her haunting new single ‘Buy A Little Time’. It’s been a whirlwind few months for Morgan Joanel, after UK music sensation Anne-Marie recently found her playing an intimate gig in Scarborough and pleaded that she open for her headline show the following evening. Morgan is now following that up with the release of a fresh single and a stadium performance this Friday June 21st, marking the beginning of a new era for the alt-pop artist.

'Buy A Little Time' is the lead single from her forthcoming EP, a project funded by her loyal following in which $12k was raised with a Kickstarter campaign so that she could bring the 5-track EP, as well as an accompanying art exhibition and visuals, to life.

Emotion comes first in the track, as Morgan’s alluring vocals take the reins, complimented by surreal guitar riffs and enchanting drum loops. Teaming up with ARIA Award winning producer Adrian Breakspear (Gang of Youths) and Dave Parkin (Tired Lion, Abbe May), the lead song is rattled with a raw, soulful edge that tangles stirring harmonies and intriguing production, something the loop-pedal artist then re-creates live on stage.

After landing a major label record deal in her early 20’s, relocating to the other side of the country, running her own fashion label, and designing customised mandala artworks; her visions for music and art were suffocating with the restraints of being on a major - so she decided to walk away from it all, including a long term relationship, in search of artistic freedom.

“It was definitely a really weird time of these crazy highs and lows and then realising that if something doesn’t feel right, that it’s OK to say no, even if that means you have to start all over again - on your own, in a whole new way.”

And starting over in a new way is exactly what she did when returning to Perth for a short break that unexpectedly turned into the most creatively satisfying experience she’s ever had. Joanel may have spent years travelling between the US and Australia working with Grammy nominated producers and songwriters but she accredits her total rebirth in music expression to being back home in Perth; “it has given me the space to create with total freedom” says the artist.

This Friday night (June 21) she will be featured in the pre-game entertainment for the Global Rapid Rugby match (Western Force VS Fijian Latui) at HBF Park, in a nationally televised performance. No stranger to playing big venues alongside international superstars, Morgan Joanel's eclectic mix of genre bending sounds and captivating live performances have earned her national tour support slots with international superstars such as Newton Faulkner, Adam Lambert, Jason Derulo and Anne-Marie.
