NOVEMBER NEW RELEASE OF #ARTMUSIC
November 2019 will see Morgan release her long awaited ARTMUSIC project - the amalgamation of her alt-pop music and the abstract, surrealism art-pieces that expand the visuals of her melodic stories. Morgan is creating wearable art-pieces, visual art and video aspects for an immersive experience that will continue to unfold through 2020. In an innovative twist, there will be an interactive element with art and music, open to global collaboration, for everyone who wishes to take part. With this concept and the community approach, Morgan hopes to raise more awareness and support for mental health and healing through expression, by connecting with others in ways that foster community support when words are the hardest things to use.
It’s been a whirlwind year for Morgan Joanel, after UK music sensation Anne-Marie found her playing an intimate gig in Perth and personally invited her to open for her headline show in April. The Perth-based musician and visual artist followed it up with a show stopping stadium performance at HBF Park in a globally televised pre-game entertainment show for Global Rapid Rugby on the same day she released her first independent single, marking the beginning of a new era for the alt-pop artist.
Multi-disciplinary by nature, Morgan is both singer/songwriter and visual artist with more new music and artistic projects rolling out through 2019. 'Buy A Little Time' is the lead single from her forthcoming EP, a project funded by her loyal following in which $12k was raised with a Kickstarter campaign so that she could bring the 5-track EP, as well as an accompanying art exhibition and visuals, to life. Teaming up with ARIA Award winning producer Adrian Breakspear (Gang of Youths) and Dave Parkin (Tired Lion, Abbe May), the lead song is rattled with a raw, soulful edge; tangled with stirring harmonies... as just a taster of what is still to come.

Mixing up a soulful cocktail of husky melodies, Morgan weaves clever live looping skills and evocative imagery into a captivating performance that unfolds not only live on stage, but long after you leave the show. Her approach to making music live on stage has seen an eclectic mix of US and UK superstars handpick her to warm up their crowds when touring around Australia, including Adam Lambert (Queen/US), Jason Derulo (US), Newton Faulkner (UK) and Anne-Marie (UK).
After landing a major label record deal in her 20’s, relocating to the other side of the country, running her own fashion label, and creating large scale artworks; her visions for music and art were suffocating with the restraints of being on a major - so she decided to walk away from it all, in search of artistic freedom and a desire to challenge the status quo.
“It was a weird time of these constant crazy highs and lows and then just realising that if something doesn’t feel right, you have to go with your gut and say no, even if that means you have to start all over again - on your own, in a whole new way.”
Morgan has spent years travelling between the US and Australia working with Grammy nominated producers and songwriters but she accredits her total rebirth in artistic expression to relocating to a coastal, spacious lifestyle in Perth; “it has given me the space to create with total freedom” says the artist.
During her time exploring other creative expressions, the multi-disciplinary artist produced an extensive list of fashion design successes including having her original collections stocked in Myer stores Australia wide and her face emblazoned on t-shirts in Zara stores globally. She’s been featured in Nylon Magazine (Japan), opened a Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Runway show and was labelled ‘genius’ by MTV Style (New York).
Although Morgan is constantly challenging her expression with new artistic mediums, it has always been music that brings her heart to life. Coming full circle, Morgan’s new project is an exploration of how music relates to imagery and story-telling, and takes its first breath with the independent release of lead single, Buy a Little Time, accompanied with visual artworks to expand on the music.
A sneak peek into Morgan's world...
Morgan is currently bringing her most evocative work to life; the result of a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign funded by her loyal following. In 2019, Morgan will release a 5 track EP of new songs accompanied by a visual art collection where the imagery expands on the music; a project with the working title of #ArtMusic. The exhibition of pieces and live performances will then be taken on a national tour of Australia.
As she brings together the visuals for this current project, Morgan will continue to collaborate with other artists and venues to paint large scale murals and commissioned artworks, all of which can be seen in more details by exploring the Art links at morganjoanel.com
Morgan has been playing with loop pedals since 2007, where she began with acoustic guitar and simple percussion. She has since expanded her dynamic live performances around electric guitar, live beats and an array of effects with her RC-300 Loop station, Helix Effects Pedal, Voice Live Touch and iRig sample pad to suit the different venues and vibes she is playing. But in the end, it's her raw story telling as she wears her heart on her sleeve, that tends to create the connection and draw an audience in.
